Thanks for your comment--I loved Hector Abad Faciolince's memoir and have Àlvaro Mutis' La nieve del almirante on my list of Colombian novels not written by García Márquez to read later in the year. Hope to get to Vallejos' Desbarrancadero soon as well since you're not the first to tell me it's a good read. Anyway, thanks for the visit, good luck with your paper, and feel free to let me know if you have any other recommendations for good Colombian authors or filmmakers. Your English is great by the way! ¡Saludos! Now I'm writing a paper for my school about the book and i like the idea that people from other countries know about Colombians writers besides of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and actually love colombian literature. I'm very proud of being colombian (and very sad since the book shows our cruel reality)
oh by the way since you like Fernando Vallejo I think you should read "El Desbarrancadero", i read it some years ago also pretty good.!
Angela. Abad Faciolince's dad does sound like he was an amazing father and human being, doesn't he? Hope the rest of the memoir lives up to the beginning of it for you, but brace yourself for some difficult reading (emotion-wise) near the end. Thanks for letting me know about your find!Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01746599416342846897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-14357719841403660412010-02-26T20:47:58.061-05:002010-02-26T20:47:58.061-05:00Was surprised and excited to find "El olvido ...Was surprised and excited to find "El olvido que seremos" at my local Barnes & Noble. Really enjoying it--though I had to put it aside for The Waves--look forward to picking it up again. What an amazing father Faciolince had---also, it's refreshing to read a memoir that is a generally a positive remembrance, though of course it will ultimately be about the tragedy of his loss. Thanks again for this review, Richard.
TeresaTeresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01547799762517054340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-61095406382011285032010-02-09T00:44:02.584-05:002010-02-09T00:44:02.584-05:00*¡Hola Mario! Demasiado cursi.
Saludos Richardmario skanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08220722326589539357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-592930470819527012010-02-04T18:13:36.949-05:002010-02-04T18:13:36.949-05:00*Hi Emily! The familial reflection was definitely worthwhile and a nice change of pace to boot, but it sure seems to have driven me back to Bolaño and friends rather quickly. Between this & Woolf, your January reading has been full of familial reflection!Emilyhttp://www.eveningallafternoon.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-79361928119285213582010-02-02T21:04:13.114-05:002010-02-02T21:04:13.114-05:00*Hi Lourdes! I don't remember exactly how I first heard about El olvido que seremos, but I remember coming across a review of it 2 or 3 years ago that sounded really interesting (I think I was either following up on a comment that I had come across to the effect that there aren't many Latin American memoirs in relation to the rest of the world's publishing industries OR looking up Colombian writers not named García Márquez for some reason). In any event, I understand that it was a huge commercial and critical hit in Latin America--and I have since heard that Abad Faciolince's 2003 novel Angosta is also supposed to be really good. Glad you enjoyed the review and hope you get a chance to check out Olvido for yourself some day. Cheers!

¡Saludos!Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01746599416342846897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-25888915441659073182010-02-02T14:37:57.838-05:002010-02-02T14:37:57.838-05:00¡Hola, Richard!

I get a sense of that from the last line of the paragraph you quoted..."casi todo lo que he escrito lo he escrito para alguien que no puede leerme, y este mismo libro no es otra cosa que la carta a una sombra".
I had not heard of Abad Faciolince...thanks for this introduction to his work. Curious how you came across his work or when you first heard of his writing?Lourdesnoreply@blogger.com
