I watch a little Italian TV here and there (cable and internet), but I wasn't aware of the Rete Quattro controversy or Fede's recent comments on Saviano until you mentioned them--will have to look into these things sometime soon. In the meantime, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Saviano both for his bravery and for his skill at his craft--both evident in his work in abundance.Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01746599416342846897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-30692889077055889352008-09-13T15:28:00.000-04:002008-09-13T15:28:00.000-04:00I'm glad you liked the book. He spoke about his escorted life and the fact that some local newspapers are also affiliated with mafia. I don't know if you've ever watched Italian television, but there's this TV journalist, Emilio Fede, who holds a news programme on Rete Quattro and he's a huge supporter of Berlusconi. He kind of insulted Saviano saying that he shouldn't have spoken about his escort (I mentioned this on my last post) and that he's exploiting the camorra to make money. And this said by someone whose morality is in doubt, if not absent (don't know if you're aware of the Rete Quattro controversy).<BR/>Saviano is without any doubts a hero because he's risking his own life in order to say what he wants to say, but in Italy some people think that he's a fraud. This is so typically Italian: we make up scandals everywhere and we always polemicize!Stefania - The Italian Backpackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02208023950547260256noreply@blogger.com
