saludosmario skanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08220722326589539357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-45481005831796958522011-04-16T10:36:27.005-04:002011-04-16T10:36:27.005-04:00*Frances: Ha, good point there--and as with Emily,...*Frances: Ha, good point there--and as with Emily, I'm almost certain that you'd be receptive to Saer's adventures in language/narration. It's a very soulful work, too, which helps.Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01746599416342846897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-4101551420278568252011-04-15T19:02:25.197-04:002011-04-15T19:02:25.197-04:00You have me curious too. ¡Saludos!

*Emily: I'm almost positive this is way more your kind of thing than E.L. Fay's, so I'm glad to hear the post was encouraging to you somehow! Although I'm also partial to Cicatrices, which is available in French but not in English yet, I think Glosa's a perfect place for you to start with Saer given your fondness for narrative derring do and interest in subjectivity. Hope you enjoy it!

*E.L. Fay: Thanks, what you say about the "straightforward" thing here makes a lot more sense. And what an interesting comment from the translator. I don't think Saer's all that difficult myself, but granted, he's probably not going to appeal to people who don't want to put any effort into their reading. Of course, I'm happy to align myself with the Semana.com panel of critics and writers that rated several Saer titles (inc. Glosa) among the 100 best Spanish language novels of the last 25 years. Scoreboard! P.S. Glad you at least gave him a try even though you had a mixed reaction to him.

¡Saludos!Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01746599416342846897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911087927983597831.post-62594671284309366452011-04-14T23:21:29.374-04:002011-04-14T23:21:29.374-04:00¡Hola, Richard!

What I meant to say was that he's light on the metaphors and symbolism and suchlike.
