The Argentinean Literature of Doom: September Link Action

Since Tom and I agreed to postpone our Facundo discussion from last week until this week and I've been sort of enjoying a working vacation from the blog in general of late, I'm afraid there's not too much Argentinean literature to report on here tonight.  Thankfully, two of my favorite Borges fans bailed me out with wonderful end of the month posts--gracias, Miguel and Rise!

On a related note, the Bioy Casares Borges diary pictured above, a 1,600 page library chunkster whose cover has been serving as an unofficial button for the Doom project, has been recalled from me again by a person or persons unknown.  Good thing I'm already several hundred pages behind on Galdós' Fortunata y Jacinta for Dwight's October readalong or there might be some Borges-inspired fisticuffs to relate to you all!

  1. The library obviously needs to buy a second copy of Borges.

First Facundo post tomorrow! Early, late, I dunno. First of two, I am guessing.

  2. I myself hope to start posting on Facundo tomorrow night--have a variety of mini-posts in mind but that just may be due to extra caffeine and no work today. Looking forward to your Sarmiento posts(s)! P.S. I agree that the library needs to buy me my own personal copy of Borges, of course...

  3. I bought Borges from Amazon (iirc) a year or so ago -- it was remaindered to some ridiculously low price (shipping of course was higher than I might have liked). Might be worth checking.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, Jeremy--I haven't checked on the price of the book in ages, but it's not like it wouldn't be a good investment!

  4. Richard - This couldn't have been a more timely reminder about the Literature of Doom read-along. I'd taken a break from the novel I was reading just to check the blogs, read this, and realized the novel I'd just been reading, without my having intended it as part of the read-along, was, in fact, an Argentine Novel of Doom. I hope to post something soon.

    1. Glad to be of service, Scott, and I look forward to your mystery Doom selection. Funnily enough, I was just thinking about you the other day for a tangentially related matter: discovered that my library has a 19-volume complete works of Gómez de Serna just waiting for you to request via ILL once you brush up on your Spanish. You'll be set for Gómez de la Serna AND Spanish Lit Month for life with that series!

    2. 19 volumes?! Guess I'd better get down to the language lab.
